Coloured plan showing the elaborate Vauban Defences of the medieval city of Tholen near Bergen-op-Zoom, the Netherlands. Two fine armorial cartouches are shown on the top right-hand side. Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban (1633-1707), is considered one the of the greatest military engineers of all time. He was responsible for the fortification of over 160 places across France, and the Netherlands between 1655-1707.
